Controller

Location: Natick, MA

Position Overview:

The Controller will oversee all aspects of accounting, financial reporting, and internal controls. This is a critical, high-visibility role suited to someone who thrives in a fast-paced, growth-oriented biotech environment and is comfortable moving between strategic planning and day-to-day execution. The ideal candidate has experience in life sciences, understands the complexities of clinical-stage operations, and can build processes that will support the company’s growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Management & Reporting
    • Oversee all general ledger activity, including month end close, reconciliations, and journal entries.
    • Prepare timely and accurate financial statements and management reports.
    • Manage budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis processes.
    • Support financial reporting for board meetings.
  • Accounting Operations
    • Implement scalable accounting tools and processes suitable for a growing biotech organization.
    • Oversee accounts payable, payroll, expense reporting, and vendor management.
    • Ensure compliance with GAAP.
    • Coordinate annual audits and tax filings with external firms.
  • Strategic & Cross-Functional Collaboration
    • Partner with Technical teams to provide financial insight and support decision-making.
    • Assist leadership with financial modeling and scenario planning as the company grows.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA is a plus.
  • 7+ years of accounting experience, including at least 2 years in as a Controller.
  • Experience in life sciences, biotech, or pharmaceutical industries strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, internal controls, and audit best practices.
  • Hands-on experience with accounting systems.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Comfort working in a small, dynamic company environment with a "roll-up-your-sleeves" mindset.
