Sr. Accountant/Manager
Location: Natick, MA
Position Overview:
The Senior Accountant owns core accounting operations and supports the continued development of our finance function as the company scales. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Finance, the role extends beyond execution of the close to include process improvement, support of new initiatives tied to company growth, and cross-functional partnership as business needs evolve.
Ownership includes end-to-end accounting processes across payables and payroll and will be developing and implementing new accounting policies and procedures to scale within the organization. Strong execution discipline ensures accuracy, timeliness, and financial integrity across all workflows.
The role also brings structure to accounting operations by evaluating existing workflows, reducing manual processes, and implementing scalable solutions. Success requires balancing hands-on execution with continuous improvement, building systems that scale with the business.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accounting Operations & Close
- Lead key components of the accounting close process, including preparation of all journal entries and account reconciliations, including complex areas such as stock compensation and leases
- Prepare financial reporting including the balance sheet, statement of profit and loss, statement of stockholders' equity and statement of cash flows
- Lead the tracking and accrual of costs for our product pipeline, including working across functional teams and with external service providers
- Own end-to-end accounting processes across accounts payable and payroll
- Ensure accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of financial transactions and reporting
- Maintain strong operational discipline across all accounting workflows
- Process Improvement & Automation
- Develop the Company's ERP, purchase order, expense reimbursement and equity plan systems, including testing and training of personnel as needed
- Evaluate existing workflows to identify inefficiencies and areas of risk
- Reduce manual processes and implement scalable solutions across accounting operations
- Identify and implement automation opportunities to improve accuracy and efficiency
- Support the development of a technology-enabled accounting function aligned to company growth
- Controls, Compliance & Audit
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls across accounting processes
- Ensure alignment with company policies, audit standards, and regulatory requirements
- Support external audits and tax preparation, ensuring documentation and financial records are audit-ready
- Assist in the development and documentation of accounting policies, procedures, and best practices
- Business Partnership & Growth Support
- Collaborate cross-functionally with operational teams on payroll, benefits, and financial workflows
- Support technical accounting initiatives tied to new and evolving business operations
- Evaluate financial impacts of company growth initiatives and expansion activities
- Contribute to building scalable financial infrastructure to support long-term growth
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Accounting or Finance required
- CPA required
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and core accounting principles, including accounting close processes, journal entries and reconciliations
- Proficiency in GAAP technical accounting for stock-based compensation and leases
- Understanding of payroll operations
- Understanding of internal controls and audit requirements, with the ability to maintain and strengthen processes
- Ability to own and execute multiple accounting processes end-to-end
- Ability to work within and meet all deadlines while executing on multiple deliverables
- Ability to identify errors and root causes of errors, develop workable solutions or alternatives
- Strong analytical rigor and problem-solving capability
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage competing priorities
- Effective communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Ability to operate independently and bring structure to evolving environments
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain confidentiality
- Proficient in Excel
Experience:
- Minimum 3–7 years of accounting experience, including public accounting background at a nationally recognized or large regional accounting firm required
- Biotechnology or life science industry experience required
- Experience owning or leading components of the accounting close process
- Experience managing full-cycle accounts payable, with a focus on accuracy and controls
- Experience supporting or leading audit preparation, including documentation and process walkthroughs
- Experience with accounting and payroll systems such as QuickBooks, Bill.com, ADP Run, or similar
- Experience identifying and implementing process improvements, automation, or system enhancements
- Experience working in a high-growth or scaling environment
